California Maritime Academy

Dwyer Hall Technology Building

VALLEJO, CA

Situated at the edge of Morrow Cove on the CMA campus, the 29,000 square foot Technology Building houses engineering and navigational instruction areas for the Academy. Renovation of the existing brick masonry building and new construction provides space for the machine shop, welding lab, electronics lab, navigation instruction, navigation simulation rooms, and faculty offices and views of the bay.

The Center also includes a 100-seat lecture hall. The circular geometry responds to the convergence of campus planning grids on the site, providing amphitheater-like lecture environments on the interior while tying campus pathways together on the outside.  Brick and plaster exterior materials match the more traditional campus structures, while clear aluminum storefronts and metal roofing provide accents that relate well to nearby contemporary buildings.
