Vintage High School Swim Center

NAPA, CA

150 ft. x 75 ft. CIF regulation size pool is also used by the City of Napa for summer recreational and instructional use.  Amenities of the new swim complex also include a ticket office, equipment and supplies storage area and changing/locker rooms.

An interesting palette of materials was selected for the swim center which includes multi-colored concrete block, glass block, tile faced block, concrete, translucent wall panels and metal roofing.

A number of sustainable strategies were integrated into the project which include: translucent panels and blocks to bring in natural daylight and reduce the need for artificial lighting; extended overhangs to reduce solar gain in the summer months and to admit the sun in the winter months; and strategically placed openings for cross ventilation.  Additionally, a 10,000-gallon surge tank was designed into the project to capture displaced water as swimmers enter the pool, pumping it back into the pool when the water level is detected as low.
